Abstract of the Society for Mycotoxin Research

The Society for Mycotoxin Research (Gesellschaft für Mykotoxinforschung e.V.) was founded in Munich, Germany, in 1997. The aim of this registered, non-profit association is to promote research on all scientific fields of mycotoxinology including:

- Mycotoxins and Human Health
- Mycotoxins and Animal Health
- Mycotoxins and Food Safety
- Mycotoxins and Feed Safety
- Toxigenic Fungi and Production of Mycotoxins
- Toxicology of Mycotoxins
- Occurrence and Analyses of Mycotoxins

One of our core ideas was to create bridges between the different scientific disciplines working on the field of toxigenic fungi and mycotoxins.

Mycotoxin Workshops

Our central event is an annual scientific meeting named the MYCOTOXIN WORKSHOP, which had its beginnings in 1979. The success of this conference, which resulted in an ever increasing attendance and organisatory workload, was one of the driving forces to initiate an official Society. In the years since the foundation of the Society for Mycotoxin Research, the MYCOTOXIN WORKSHOP is organized under the auspices of the Society.

Today, the MYCOTOXIN WORKSHOP typically attracts 200+ participants from academia, government, and industry. Scientific contributions (approx. 100 per year, oral an poster presentations) cover all aspects of myotoxin research. In addition to composing a high quality scientific programme, we try to do our best to maintain an informal atmosphere, allowing participants to exchange information and experiences, to meet old friends and to make new ones. With an international attendence from more than 20 countries coming from all parts of the world, the official language of the conference is English. The workshops are typically held in May or June. Some examples of recent Workshop locations:

28th Mycotoxin Workshop 2006: Bydgoszcz, Poland

29th Mycotoxin Workshop 2007: Stuttgart, Germany

30th Mycotoxin Workshop 2008: Utrecht, The Netherlands

31st Mycotoxin Workshop 2009: Münster, Germany

32nd Mycotoxin Workshop 2010: Kopenhagen, Denmark

33rd Mycotoxin Workshop 2011: To be announced

Science Award

The BRIGITTE GEDEK AWARD FOR MYCOTOXIN RESEARCH, endowed with
10,000.- € is awarded from the Society for Mycotoxin Research to scientists every two years for a creative and outstanding scientific contribution (master thesis, doctoral thesis as well as publication in international scientific journals).

Official Journal of the Society: Mycotoxin Research

With a continuous publication history of 20 years, MYCOTOXIN RESEARCH now became the official journal of the Society for Mycotoxin Research, effective with Volume 21 (2005).

The Society for Mycotoxin Research has taken the editorial responsibility for the scientific contents of this journal which provides an international forum and interdisciplinary platform for all scientists working in the field of mycotoxins and toxigenic fungi. From 2009 on Mycotoxin Research will be published by Springer - Backfiles of the last ten years will be available from October 2008 on.

Membership

The society presently has more than 200 members from 20 countries and is a truly international society. New members which are interested in mycotoxin research are always welcome.
